Frequently asked questions

Where are you?

311 Colyton Road - a 5 minute drive from Feilding, or 15 minutes from Palmerston North. 2 hours north of Wellington and 1 hour from Whanganui. Find us on google here.

How does it work, I've never picked blueberries before?

Drive into the farm, find a carpark in our large parking paddock (follow the signs). Then pop to our farm shop to buy a picking punnet, these are compostable & you can drop them back here for composting during opening hours. Once you have your punnet, go through to the blueberries (you'll see them, they are pretty obvious)! Then you simply walk around, pick some blueberries and put them in your punnet. It's easy picking, the ripe ones tend to pull off easy and are a nice dark blue colour. If you find a patch doesn't have many keep walking! Sometimes the plants with the most are further away, where most people haven't made it to. It's really good fun and you can usually fill a punnet within 10-20 minutes (or less if you are speedy!)

Can I bring my own container?

We operate on a pre-purchased punnet system to streamline our systems. You can pre-purchase a 1kg punnet from us. Each pre-brought 1kg punnet comes with a free child cup for filling if required. You can buy extra cups for kids for just $2. Head to the icecream shop on arrival to get your compostable container.

What's the price per kg?

Because we operate on a pre-purchased punnet system, the price is $20 per punnet. They can fit northwards of 1.1kg when well packed!

What if I want to buy a bulk lot of berries and it's too tricky with your punnets?

We absolutely understand that the pre-purchased punnets don't always work if you want a large quantity of our delicious berries! Come and talk to us at the shop or email us as we may be able to arrange a private out of opening hours pick with your own containers. During opening hours we only operate on pre-purchased punnets.

When are you open and do I need to book?

No, you don't need to book! Keep an eye on our social media for opening hours as they do vary, then just turn up within opening hours! As 2027 is our first real season, our blueberries aren't fully mature so we are only open limited hours to preserve the availability of fruit. We will try to keep our hours consistent but blueberries can only be picked if the weather is fine (not raining) and if we have enough for a good pick. For this reason it always pays to keep an eye on our social media as we may change our opening day or hours last minute! If we get picked out we may stay open for icecream.

Can I bring my dog?

We love pooches but unfortunately you can't bring them to our farm. We are a working farm and to keep our animals safe and healthy, dogs aren't permitted on site. Thanks for understanding!

What do we bring?

We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and wearing light clothing on a hot day as it gets quite warm under our blueberry nets.

What will you have available at your store?

  • Real Fruit Icecream (always blueberry, sometimes other flavours!)

  • Packaged Iceblocks (a delicious GF & DF packaged option)

  • Sometimes fresh berries (if you don't fancy a pick or just passing through)

  • Cold Drinks

No Coffee - If you would like a coffee we highly recommend heading 1km down the road to our local cafe Ginger Bird! You can walk or cycle on our new lime path, or drive down. They also offer fantastic lunch options! We love our local and want to encourage people to visit the cafe.

What payment methods do you take?

We take cash, credit, paywave. No surcharge.

We don't take traditional EFTPOS (debit cards), unless they are a visa debit.

What else can we do while we're there?

We have a lovely area to sit with your icecream, we have a small playground for the kids and a paddock where we may have some of our animals. Look out over our growing olive grove and enjoy the rural setting!

Can we eat while we pick?

If you are genuinely picking blueberries, absolutely! We want your experience to be fun, so we don't mind you doing a wee taste test. If you come only for icecream & the serenity of the countryside you can't enter the blueberry patch just to have a munch, you'll need to pre-buy a punnet.

Do you have pre-picked blueberries if I don't want to pick my own?

We encourage PYO but we will have fresh berries available for purchase, subject to availability on the day. Of course it's more economical for you to PYO but we understand you may just be passing or have limited time and may still want some blueberries to take away!

Do you sell frozen berries?

No, we don't. PYO is our main focus for the farm, so if you want them in the winter, the best idea is to stock up and freeze them yourselves.

Your plants seem small, will they grow?

Yes they will! They take 7 years to really mature and have full production. 2027 will be roughly year 3/4 so every year will look a bit bigger & different! We intend to always keen them tidy and easy to pick with good pruning and great yummy newer varieties.

Are you organic and do you spray your berries?

We are not certified organic. We use a minimal spray programme, including a fungicide after winter pruning and targeted weed control where needed. Once the bushes are flowering and fruit is developing, we avoid spraying the fruit and always follow label directions and withholding periods.
